This course introduces the student to JavaScript, the primary client-side scripting tool used on the Web. Robust in nature and easy on syntax, scripting languages like this allow you to add versatility and interactivity into your Web presentations. This course will build on the basics already introduced by teaching how to use XHTML 1.0 Strict markup with Cascading Style Sheets to create Web pages that are faster and easier to create, maintain, and implement across a wider variety of user agents. CSS for layout and XHTML for markup will be explored.

Course: XML - Internet Systems Specialist Diploma Program 18: 2007 Jul 9 - Jul 20

Course Description

This course introduces the student to XML and its related technologies, such as XML DTDs, namespaces, schemas, and XSLT. XML is a very popular and extremely versatile markup language, used in everything from Web services to describing content for a database. XML is only going to gain popularity in the near future, so a thorough understanding of it can only be an asset to any Web developer.


Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will have:

  • Working knowledge of XML documents.
  • Knowledge of how to create well-formed XML documents.
  • Knowledge of how XML is used in a variety of applications.
  • An understanding of XML Document Type Definitions (DTD’s).
  • Knowledge of XML Schemas and how they work.
  • The ability to apply styles to XML documents with XSLT and CSS.
  • The ability to create RSS feeds.

Course: Flash - Internet Systems Specialist Diploma Program 18: 2007 Jun 25 - Jul 6

Course Description

The Introduction to Flash course is covered in 30 hours of class time with many hours of bonus material that can be covered at home. It will provide students with a solid foundation in the basics of the Macromedia Flash application.

Students will learn how to navigate the program interface, use the drawing and text tools, create animations, import sounds and graphics, optimize Flash movies, and publish the necessary files for display on the World Wide Web. The course includes information for both Windows and Macintosh users.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be familiar with:

  • Knowledge of how to use the Flash drawing tools.
  • Working knowledge of the Flash work environment.
  • An understanding of the vector graphics in Flash.
  • The skills necessary to create animations in Flash.
  • Knowledge of how to use Flash to publish content for the Web.
  • Knowledge of how different symbols and objects work in Flash.


Prerequisites

In addition to any reading listed above, you should have the following before registering for this course:

  • Web Design Level 1 (XHTML) or equivalent.
  • Computer and Internet access at home.
  • Computer and Internet access at home plus a full version of Macromedia Flash. This is

    not

    the free Flash viewer, but the application environment for authoring Flash files.
